Privacy Policy – Hausgeist

2. Principle
Hausgeist runs no servers of its own and has no user account. As the developer, I have no access to your chores, appointments or household data.
3. Storage and sync via iCloud
Your chores and household data are stored on your device and in your iCloud account (Apple CloudKit). Syncing between your devices and with members of your household is handled by Apple. The provider is Apple Distribution International Ltd., Hollyhill Industrial Estate, Hollyhill, Cork, Ireland. Apple’s privacy policy applies.
4. Shared household
When you share a household, its members see the shared chores and the complete completion history – that is, who checked off which chore and when. They also see your display name. Hausgeist takes it from your Apple ID when you join, so it is your name as stored there. Chores under “Meine Aufgaben” (My chores) are not shared.
5. Calendar access
With your permission, Hausgeist reads appointments from Apple Calendar to show them in the app and widget, and adds new appointments when you ask it to. Calendar data is processed only on your device and is never sent to me. You can revoke access at any time in your iPhone settings.
6. Silent notifications for syncing
Hausgeist registers with Apple’s push service so your device learns about changes in your household (silent notifications via iCloud). No visible notifications are shown and no content is sent to me.
7. Backup files
Under “Sicherung” (Backup) you can export all data to a file: the household, the chores (including your private ones), the people with their names and the complete completion history. Your settings (colours and calendar selection) are included as well; whether they are applied is up to you when restoring. The identifier of your iCloud account is not included.
The file is not sent to any server, including mine. Where it is saved and who you share it with is entirely up to you, via the iOS file dialog. Because it contains the names and completions of everyone in your household, please only pass it on with their consent.
8. Technical log
Hausgeist keeps a log on your device about the state of iCloud syncing: up to 60 entries with timestamps. It may contain the title of a chore, for example when checking it off was rejected. The log does not leave your device. You can view and clear it in the app’s settings under “Sync-Protokoll” (Sync log).
There you can also copy it to the clipboard yourself, for example to send it to me with a support request. The copied version additionally contains the names of your household’s members and their permissions. Hausgeist itself never sends it anywhere.
9. No ads, no tracking
Hausgeist contains no advertising and no analytics or tracking services.
10. Legal basis
Processing is carried out to provide the app’s features (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). This includes exporting backup files, which you request yourself, and the technical log, which is necessary to provide iCloud syncing. Calendar access is based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
11. Deletion
Deleting the app removes the data from your device. You can delete the data in your iCloud account under Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage. Exported backup files are not removed when you delete the app: they stay wherever you saved them and must be deleted by you.
